Black
Wow! It’s been a while since I’ve posted. No real excuses or explanations except that I fell out of the habit. Anyway, I was putting together a set of entries for a little photo contest and thought that I’d post them more widely. Some are abstract, some are experimental, but I hope you find all of them visually interesting.
The theme linking these photographs is the ‘colour’ black.
The chicken barn just before lights-out. The cold, inky blacks frame the barn windows and the warmth inside.
“CPR at Sunset” is one of my favourites, but few agree with me. It was close to sunset on a summer evening. The sun was briefly at a perfect angle to create reflections on the well-polished CPR Tracks. I love how, just for a moment, a pretty mundane prairie scene turned into a railway track abstract.
I call this photograph ‘Boo Radley’s House’ after the character in Harper Lee’s “To Kill a Mockingbird”. The harsh morning shadows turn an otherwise inviting family home into something menacing.
A window from Union Point United Church. The inky shadows frame the windows and the reflections on polished pew.
Movie Night tells a story with shapes and silhouettes.
Grasshopper buddies hanging out, one is shadow, one in silhouette.
