The deep, rich blacks at the heart of black and white photography.

One of my first ventures in to studio photography - a glass electrical insulator.
Interesting how the background can be so dark on a bright sunny day. I love how the background shadows allow the highlights on the dandelion seeds to glow.

I call this photograph ‘Boo Radley’s House’ after the character in Harper Lee’s “To Kill a Mockingbird”. The harsh morning shadows turn an otherwise inviting family home into something menacing.

“CPR at Sunset” is one of my favourites, but few agree with me. It was close to sunset on a summer evening. The sun was briefly at a perfect angle to create reflections on the well-polished CPR Tracks. I love how, just for a moment, a pretty mundane
Another view of the barn windows. I like the shadow that the window casts on the snowbank.
A lightbulb in the chicken barn. The barn is a damp, dusty environment where dust clings to objects in sheets - almost like spider webs.
I like the visual contrast between the dark, lamp-lit streets and the bright light streaming out of the second floor window of the first house.
